At SportSight North, it is our mission to help athletes from all backgrounds and skill sets achieve their maximum potential. From professional competitors to weekend warriors and everyone in between, we strive to give athletes the tools they need for peak performance.
Sports vision is based on the simple but powerful premise that vision is a learned skill, which can be improved with practice. We are responsible for evaluating each athlete’s visual-cognitive skills and developing a custom program to help them achieve their goals, no matter the sport or position they play.
Our services also include concussion baseline testing. It is recommended that athletes participating in any contact or high-speed sport complete an annual baseline test to ensure the best care can be provided in the event a concussion occurs.
SportSight North is a fully mobile service. We add convenience by bringing our training programs and concussion baseline testing to your team, school, home, or anywhere you need us to be!
The Sports Vision Premise
Sports vision is an incredibly important concept for all athletes, regardless of their level of expertise. The idea that one can improve their visual skills with practice and training can be a powerful aid to improvement on the field, court or rink.
The average person utilizes only 30-40% of their visual potential and although elite athletes utilize much more, there is still room for improvement. Visual perception and recognition of visual cues is an often overlooked but crucial aspect of any sport. Studies have found that up to 80% of common athletic errors are related to vision, yet very few athletes prioritize visual training like they would any sport-specific skill.
After an athlete has mastered the technical skills, most performance mistakes are not because of physical movement errors but because the movement was made at the wrong time. The ability to anticipate is a major factor in high level competitive activities. Superior speed, size, and reflexes cannot compensate for the insufficient processing of the visual information regarding WHEN to perform.
